I have an epoxy/aspen round art piece I need to finish. I just got done milling it down and am dreading the amount of sanding I have ahead of me (there’s 3 2×4 panels, this is one of 3). But I do need to start contemplating what is going to be a nice satin finish.
I want to preserve the natural whiteish look of the aspen as I think it’ll make the orange epoxy pop. I’d rather not lock my shop up for weeks with dry times and it will be hung about 10’-12’ off the ground so small flaws will go unnoticed by anyone other than me.
I used Rubio monocoat to finish out these 3 panels. Went amazing. That stuff is easy to use.
I was looking for something that would accentuate the whites of the aspen and not yellow. I was told 5% white would be a good choice. I opted to try super white.
It’s bold. And made a high contrast against the epoxy, but that’s what I was looking for.
Anyway, thanks for the help. I’ll post pics when it’s complete and hanging.
I feel like they worked well for our space and I completely understand that they are not everyone’s taste.
